This spot, also known as Lakey Beach, from Bima is a 3 hours drive south-west of Bima, through the district of Dompu and some picturesque countryside. Hu’u is the small beach village with waves varying from 8 to 15 feet, that has become a popular and one of the best destinations for surfers from around the world looking for challenging breaks. Its reputation has long been a widely held secret among surfers, earning itself the name "Sumbawa Surf." Its natural beauty appeals to both surfers as well as non-surfers looking for holiday destinations. The area is quite dry and rugged around the south coast but Hu’u has a beautiful long white beach and a solid left-hand reef break that works at times of the year when other places may be flat. Much depends on the tides here though. For untold years the people of a tiny village in East Sumbawa have given scant regard to the perfect waves that have gone unridden in their backyard. Since the accommodation in the area opened in 1988 the waves and the strange visitor who come to ride them have become the chief form of local entertainment. The native’s line in the beaches for hours on end to watch surfers perform and treat them with the sort of reverence normally reserved for surf stars at a Pro-contents. The surroundings however, couldn't be more different. The area offer an oasis of simple comforts in the middle of a harsh, primitive land. It is mind-boggling to ponder the number of perfect waves which have gone unwritten here.
